ON TOP OF THE WORLD...
Spectacular views, endangered spruce forest, and starry skies are just a few steps away.
Clingmans Dome: Rising 6,634 feet toward the heavens, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the third highest peak east of the Mississippi. On clear days the views stretch beyond 100 miles, but most days air pollution from surrounding metropolitan areas limit the views to 20 miles or less.
The high peaks of the Smokies provide the perfect cool, wet conditions to support the rare spruce-fir forest at these higher elevations. The coniferous rainforest grows above 4,500 feet in elevation and harbors an environment found in similar climate such as Maine and Quebec, Canada. A variety of animals and plants inhabit the forest, but you may have difficulty seeing them. Instead, listen closely and keep your eyes pealed for their presence.
Beyond the frequently trafficked road to the summit and the short hike to the lookout tower, there exists a world that few visitors experience. Join our guides on a nature walks, mountain bald hike, stargazing trip, full moon walk, or one of the seasonal trips we offer.
Why Go: The spruce-fir forest is quickly disappearing and may become extinct in the Great Smoky Mountains within the next ten years. Take a walk in this special place and discover what you can do to protect this important resource for future generations.
Getting There: Clingmans Dome is accessible via Cherokee, NC or Gatlinburg, TN and is within 30 miles of many of the areas inns, bed & breakfasts, cabin rentals, camping facilities, and hotels.
DEPARTURE POINTS: Your guide will meet you at the designated departure point at least fifteen minutes prior to your tour time. Designated departure points vary based on the tour.

PLAYING BY THE RULES: The National Park is a treasured place and we would like to keep it that way. So, we strictly adhear to the National Park Service rules and regulations, Leave No Trace ethics, and a few additional safety rules of our own and expect our guests to do the same.
Help us keep the park a safe and enjoyable place now and for future generations.
