DISCOVER WATERFALLS, OLD GROWTH FORESTS & ANCIENT LEGENDS.

The roar of rushing waterfalls, the sight of breathtaking old growth forests, and the whispers of ancient Cherokee legends are held within the watery fingers of Deep Creek.

Deep Creek: Considered a part of the Oconaluftee watershed, Deep Creek is surrounded by the sounds of life sustaining water. Waterfalls trickle, pour, and roar around, over and through every rocky surface along the trails at this location.

Spared by the logging companies who flocked to the area in the early 1900s, significant stands of old growth forest still stand, untouched by man’s voracious appetite for industry and progress. Venture beyond the footprints of less courageous visitors to discover a nature walk that uncovers a living book of natural history spanning hundreds of centuries.

Deep Creek is the site where Tsali, the heroic Cherokee Indian who gave his life to protect his people, surrendered to the U.S. Government in 1938. He was executed shortly thereafter, and today is considered a hero by his descendants. The people who live on the Cherokee Indian Reservation believe that they are there today because of Tsali.

Why Go: Waterfalls, old growth forests, and Cherokee legends are only a few topics we explore on our guided nature walks, history hikes, and waterfall hikes in Deep Creek. Nighttime ghosts & legends trips offer an activity for visitors looking for an entertaining experience as the day comes to an end.
