Tour Description: Each spring wildflowers begin their dazzling show within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The park is a world-renowned preserve of wildflower diversity. There are more than 1,660 types of flowering plants in the park, more than any other national park in North America.
Search the forest floor for rare flowers, discover the factors that contribute to their diversity, and capture their timeless beauty in photographs before they retreat into the soil, only to return again next year. This guided tour will take you to the places where the park’s wildflowers thrive. You’ll be introduced to their understory ecosystem, pollinators, and the science behind their existence.
Available in early spring thru mid-summer, don’t miss an opportunity to explore a diverse environment within one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world.
Ephemerals: A group of flowers known as ephemerals are a remarkable type of plant that adapted to the seasonal cycle of the trees they live below. These remarkable flowers emerge in early spring before the surrounding trees leaf out. The warmth of the sun, moisture from early spring rains, and rich nutrients from decomposing fall foliage give the wildflowers the conditions they need to flourish.
COST: $34 for each adult. $19 for each child (10 years of age and younger).
